You are vulnerable
Under all those snarky comments and determined glares
Behind the powerful stride of
being strong enough to never need anyone else
You long for a pair of arms you can crash into.
But you are also terrified by the thought of those arms
turning away exactly as you are about to fall into them
Scared that it’ll be just you
Falling
Crashing
All on your own
So you leave before they do,
Onto the next set of arms
The next pair of lips
You become an expert at not keeping expectations,
So that disappointments hurt less
You become an expert at playing games,
as long as you aren’t the one being played
You become an expert at breaking love,
before it breaks you
But it still doesn’t change the fact
That you are vulnerable
And that’s okay
